This wall art print is called 'A Collage of Butterflies and Moths'.

As the name suggests... That is exactly what it is!

This is a piece of wall art that celebrates not only the amazing diversity of the insect world, but also the fabulous colours of many of the worlds butterflies and moths.

There are around 18,500 species of butterflies and an astonishing 160,000 species of moth worldwide.

So, while there are quite a few in this artwork, I clearly haven't tapped out the list of possibilities.

Four Ways to tell a Butterfly from a Moth

1/ One of the easiest ways to tell the difference between a butterfly and a moth is to look at the antennae. A butterfly’s antennae are club-shaped with a long shaft and a bulb at the end. A moth’s antennae are feathery or saw-edged.

2/ Butterflies tend to fold their wings vertically up over their backs. Moths tend to hold their wings in a tent-like fashion that hides the abdomen.

3/ Butterflies are typically larger and have more colourful patterns on their wings. Moths are typically smaller with drab-coloured wings (NOTE - Not here Bucko! Check out the pink one and the red one in my art here! He clearly didn't get the 'Moth Memo' about showing up 'drab')

4/ Butterflies are primarily diurnal, flying in the daytime. Moths are generally nocturnal, flying at night. However, there are moths that are diurnal, such as the buck moth and there are butterflies that are crepuscular, that is, flying at dawn and dusk.

(A few of the species that you can see featured here are gossamer-winged butterflies, cecropia moths, zebra longwing butterflies, brush footed butterfly, small skipper butterfly, high brown fritillary butterfly, swallowtail butterfly and many more!)

Anyway, if you like bold colours, modern art, or are looking for some butterfly art to cheer up your walls then this one may be for you.
