Cow Art - Mother and Calf Life is Better With Your Mom Canvas Print

Regular price $ 99.99

Mothers are special. We all know that. When you're feeling sad and want a hug, when you do something great, just because... you want your mom around.

Birds, Bees and even Cows and their Calves know it!

This 'Cow Art - Mother and Calf - Life is Better With Your Mom Canvas Print' acknowledges that.

Typically, around the world we acknowledge this with 'Mother's Day', which is a celebration that is observed in  countries around the world, though the dates of each differ.

Here are just a few for example:

USA/Canada/Australia - Second Sunday of May (Mother's Day falls on May 9th 2021 and May 8th 2022)

UK/Ireland - Fourth Sunday in Lent (Mothering Sunday) - (Mother's Day falls on 14th March 2021)

There is the common idea that Mother's Day was 'invented' by greetings card manufacturers to sell more product.

But actually, the 'modern' tradition is probably a little older then you may realise, and actually has more heartfelt sentiment behind it (at least in its creation story) then you may realise.

(Greetings Card makers, candy makers, flower sellers, and pretty much all retailers are slightly less 'pure' of intent these days!)

It was first 'celebrated' in the United States in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at St Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia.

It was because her mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, who was a social activist while she was alive, and who had cared for soldiers during the Civil War had frequently expressed a desire for the establishment of just such a holiday.

Anna had been campaigning since 1905 to make Mother's Day a recognized holiday in the United States, which was when her mother had died.

The idea was a day that celebrated Peace and Mothers, because she believed that a mother is 'the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world'.

At first the idea was resisted, and the 'Official Holiday' idea was at first rejected by Congress in 1908. But, because of the efforts of Anna Jarvis, by 1911 all of the states in the union observed the holiday (appropriately West Virginia was first in 1910); and in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a declaration that designated the Second Sunday in May as a national holiday to honor Mother's Day.

Not a greeting card in sight at this point!

That all really kicked off in the 1920's though...  when Hallmark Cards, and others started to sell Mother's Day cards.

The 'commercialization' of Mother's Day angered Jarvis, and she was actually arrested  a couple of times in the 1920s for protesting at various trade shows connected to it.

Still, your mom doesn't need to know that! If she likes cows, then this piece of cow art will probably go down a storm!

It's also available year round!
